Plagiarism Policy

The International Journal of Marketing and Business Management (IJMBM) takes seriously the obligation to adhere to the highest ethical standards regarding publishing. One of the pieces of this commitment, the journal follows strict rules regarding plagiarism. The discrediting of the academic research community by plagiarism undermines the integrity of authors, reviewers and readers, and violates the trust of representation in the scholarly work. Consequently, IJMBM has a zero-tolerance policy for anything considered plagiarism.

It is plagiarism when you put someone else’s work, ideas, or expression on your own when you have not cited the original source. It also includes without limitation, copying text and data, images, and ideas from other sources without proper citation, self plagiarism wherein authors reuse portions of their earlier published work without appropriate acknowledgement. You still have to credit the original source and mark direct quotes with quotation marks and a citation, even if the work is paraphrased or summarized.

Authors ought to guarantee that the article is original and free of plagiarism, when submitted. For this, IJMBM encourages authors to do a self plagiarism checking using any available plagiarism detection tool. We will reject immediately submitted articles caught plagiarizing and will never publish them. Plagiarism is unacceptable, and if identified after publication, the article will be retracted and further corrective measures will be taken.

Plagiarism not limited to text also includes appropriating figures, tables or any other graphical section without the proper permission and citation on them as IJMBM also considers it plagiarism. Authors then must ensure they have been granted appropriate permissions to reproduce such third party materials in their article and for this they should provide to the journal on receipt. Materials not properly attributed will be returned to the authors for revision or rejected if problems arise regarding appropriate attribution.

Editorial team will investigate the matter in case plagiarism if identified in the course of peer review process. It could involve matching the article against databases, plagiarism detection software, as well as against prior publications. It will be rejected and liability of the author(s) if there is significant or intentional plagiarism. Authors may be asked to revise and resubmit the article with appropriate correction for minor problems, for instance, for unintentional or inconclusive citation.

If an article has been published, you will be seriously taken into account if the allegations of plagiarism arise. Upon publication, the editorial board will investigate a case of plagiarism if it’s discovered. If the plagiarism is substantively beyond what constitutes permissible use of another's work, the article will be retracted. In the case of serious or repeated violations, the authors may be prohibited from future submission to the journal.

IJMBM's plagiarism policy is intended as a means of protecting the academic and professional reputation of journal, of its authors, reviewers and readers. In the spirit of transparency, the retraction, correction and re-publication will be available on the article’s page on the journal’s site so that the academic record remains accurate and trustworthy.

So, the plagiarism policy is carried out rigorously for the purposes of creating a scholarly environment in which writers are encouraged to produce original and good quality works and accepting credit for work of previous authors. Authors, reviewers, and editors should be held accountable for acting in good faith and adhere to an agreed on publishing philosophy regarding ethical publishing practises where all research published in IJMBM contributes to the academic community in a meaningful and transparent way.
